Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

StrategyPlanning.ca is a Canadian business consulting service that runs the strategic planning cycle for owner-led companies and their boards. We write three-year plans, build the operating budgets that fund them, design scorecards, facilitate offsites, prepare scenarios and run quarterly reviews. The practice sits within the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group, works from its Vancouver, British Columbia headquarters, and is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA.

The company and the group

We are one practice inside a small Canadian group of consulting brands. Each brand has a narrow focus, and this one is planning.

Sedighi.ca, the parent, is where Ali's growth, marketing and technology consulting sits, and it carries brands such as BusinessConsulting.ca, Conv.ca, Trades.Agency, HVAC.Agency and HVAC.Digital. SAZ.ca (short for Strategy & Acceleration Zone) is the Canadian firm Ali founded for strategy, AI and revenue-acceleration work, where he serves as Founder & Managing Partner. BusinessConsulting.ca publishes the consulting rates we use.

When a planning engagement turns up a different need, such as a sale of the business or succession, the group's exit brand, BizSell.ca, works alongside Sedighi.ca on valuation, exit readiness and deal structuring.

Ali Sedighi, MBA

Ali Sedighi leads every StrategyPlanning.ca engagement. His MBA is in Technology Management. His working career spans 17+ years and began in 2007 with ONE.ir, the full-service digital marketing agency he founded that year.

Later ventures include Conv.ca, an agency for conversion-rate optimisation, and MyAutomation.ca. At SAZ.ca his title is Founder & Managing Partner. Clients have come from Canada, the USA and Dubai, and Vancouver is now home and base. His teams have built 150+ live HVAC websites, which is why our published results come from our HVAC work.

What that background brings to planning is a habit of measurement. Marketing and growth work is judged monthly against numbers, and the same discipline shapes how we write plans: every priority gets a measure, an owner and a review date. You can read more about Ali on his Sedighi.ca profile.

How we work

We work in a calm, structured way, and every engagement follows the same principles.

  • Facts before opinions. Each engagement starts with a numbers pack and interviews, so discussion begins from a shared picture of the company.
  • Decisions in writing. Sessions end with a decision log: what was decided, who owns it, by when.
  • Few priorities. We hold the plan to three to five priorities. More than that and the plan stops guiding anything.
  • Plan and budget together. The annual operating plan is built from the strategy, not separately.
  • A review calendar from day one. Four quarterly reviews are booked before the plan is approved.
  • Your files, your plan. Every document and model belongs to you, and your team can maintain it without us.

We meet online by video call and in person. Offsites are often best held together in a room, and we travel to you for them. Phone, text and email carry the work between sessions, and a short text to (604) 632-4959 is a perfectly good way to begin.

Our positioning and its limits

As a Canadian planning practice within the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group, our remit is strategy and planning, and we are explicit about its boundaries.

We don't provide legal, accounting, tax or governance-compliance advice. We don't act as your auditor, your corporate secretary or your lender. When a planning question touches a board's legal duties, a tax structure or financial statements, we name it and refer it to your professional advisors. We also don't run your company day to day; your managers do, and our job is to make their decisions clearer.

Who we are a good fit for

We work best with owner-led companies where the owner wants a team that can decide without them in the room. That often means a leadership group of three or more, sometimes a board with outside members, and a willingness to put decisions and numbers in writing.

We are probably not the right fit if you need a business plan for a loan application, a one-day motivational retreat, or someone to manage projects week to week. We will tell you so in the first conversation, and point you elsewhere if we can.

Frequently asked questions

Who will we actually work with?

Ali Sedighi leads the engagements. You will not be handed to a junior team after the first meeting, and you can reach him by call, text or email throughout the work.

Is StrategyPlanning.ca a separate company?

It operates as one of the planning-focused brands of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group. Sedighi.ca is the consulting company Ali runs for growth, marketing and technology work; SAZ.ca, which he founded, advises Canadian firms on strategy, AI and revenue acceleration.

Do you provide legal, accounting or governance advice?

No. We provide strategy and planning consulting. When a plan raises a legal, tax, accounting or governance question, we flag it and you take it to your lawyer or accountant.

Where are you located?

We are headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and work with companies in every province and territory, online by video call and in person.
